V4 is a completely reworked board with a new DC-DC converter that fixes the 24V issue found on earlier revisions. 48V is now supported when paired with the Dig-Octa Power-5HV board (5V-24V standard). Here's what's new compared to V3.5 (the current Brainboard):
- Completely reworked board — V4 revision 1 (v4r1), now on a 6-layer PCB, introduced 2026-10-31
- New DC-DC converter design — Fixes the 24V issue; 5V-24V, or 24V-48V with a Power-5HV
- New QEXP port — Includes a cable to female Dupont for wiring up accessories
- New relay port and circuit — Load-switch (still 5V trigger out), smaller port with included pigtail cable
- Reworked level-shifters — ESD and over-voltage protection; no more resistor switcher, tuned for similar-to-33Ω performance
- Top-board extension header — Ready for future top boards (e.g. doubled outputs, Diff-Solo/Diff-Adv, DMX); fully stacking and stacking-power compatible
- New I2C port — Stemma QT / JST SH 1.0mm
- Updated Ethernet — Socket lip points up; Ethernet power jumper removed (SD card jumper remains)
- Onboard digital PDM microphone — With a jumper to disable it electrically
- New GPIO layout — LED1-8 work together with I2C and the digital mic; some GPIOs shared with the SD card slot, see pinout guide
